For those who love everything to do with “sand and water”, Sarasota is a
marvelous place to visit! This Gulf Coast City is a part of Florida, and
boasts of splendid beaches that every tourist would love to visit! As a
matter of fact, Sarasota was recently included in Dr. Beach’s list of Top
Ten Beaches in America. You have to walk on the sand to believe how pure
it is—99% pure quartz crystal sand, powdery and white! The Woods Hole Oceanographic
Institution bestowed the title of “finest and whitest sands in the world”
on Siesta Key Beach.
You are bound to find a crowd of people on these beaches at any hour
of the day! The attractions
are tennis courts and volleyball courts. Now, if you want to join the
players, you better get your racquets along with you during your holiday;
the locals will ensure that you get a chance to participate too. If you
adore fishing, you can charter a boat for offshore fishing trips. Plenty
of fish are waiting for you—Red Snapper, Marlin, Wahoo, Grouper, Cobia,
Tuna, and Amber Jack. What’s more, this Southwest Gulf Shore can be visited
during any time of the year; but, summertime is the best time for expenses
come down! The weather is warm and humid, and the water is as clear as
crystal. You can enjoy your solitude and day cruises in peace, as fewer
people visit during this time of the year, saving you the trouble of standing
in long queues!
Sometimes, there is something known as a Red Tide outbreak in Sarasota.
What this refers to is discolored seawater (caused by certain algae that
produce saxitoxin). When these tiny plants are in total bloom, the atmosphere
seems to be heavily polluted and fish are killed. So if you should be
strolling on any of the beaches during this time, your eyes are bound
to water profusely, plus you will experience a sensation of coughing or
choking with every breath that you take.
Sometimes, you are caught unawares after reaching the place; do be prepared
for any emergency by checking out the NOAA website (http://www.csc.noaa.gov/crs/habf)
or at least ring up the hotel you plan to stay at and ask for information.
There have been quite a few changes made here in order to attract
tourists. One of them has been the setting up of a larger-than-life
statue along the waterfront, near the Tamiami Trail; it depicts a couple
in a romantic pose! Despite the controversy surrounding it, it has managed
to capture the attention of many visitors; even the locals love it! In
fact, couples try to imitate the same posture and get their photographs
taken. Of course, ardent Art lovers would argue that this was just a huge
monstrosity and totally unfitting for a cultural city like Sarasota; however,
it does pull in the crowds for each individual has a different perspective.
So when are you planning to visit the beaches
of Sarasota?
